Precursor chemicals are controlled to prevent the diversion of these chemicals from legitimate commerce to illicit drug manufacturing. Legislative control of precursor chemicals in Tanzania has been established through three main Laws namely:

1. Industrial and Consumer Chemical (Management and Control) Act No 3 of 2003.

2. The Drugs Control and Enforcement Act, No. 5 of 2015.

3. Tanzania Food, Drugs and Cosmetics Act No.1 of 2003.
